Synopsis: | Months after Capt. James H. Callahan leads a troop of Texas Rangers in an 1855 military incursion into Mexico, people wonder at the rumors that Texas Gov. Pease had sent Callahan there on a secret mission. They also speculate on the cause of Callahan’s “difficulty” with his neighbor, Woodson Blassingame, resulting in Callahan’s death as well as that of friend Thomas “Maulheel” Johnson on the Blanco River the following March 1856, followed by the lynch mob killing of both Woodson Blassingame and his son Calvin, and a trial with 2 changes of venue and hearings that lasted for years. |
