The Ellis County CG chapter, #70 will be participating in the ESPN televised opening ceremony of the fall 2026 NHRA Nationals.  All TX state CG are invited to participate.  Please confirm your participation to me by September 30, 2026.  Additional information regarding parking and admittance will be provided as it becomes available.  If you are considering attending and planning an overnight stay in Ennis or Waxahachie, book your room now as they will fill up fast if not already.  The event actually runs from Thursday -Sunday.

Living History Encampment

On October 23-24, 2026 weekend, we here at Chapter 50 Victoria, Texas are hosting a living history encampment celebrating the beginning of our 250th anniversary of the Revolution and our connection with Spain.  Living historians from around the country are participating as well as the Grenaderos de Galvez members AND Fife and Drum Corps.  My hope is that SAR chapters and particularly Color Guards will join us and participate with us that weekend.  The setting is on the grounds of Mission Espiritu Santo (Spanish mission from the 18th century) within the beautiful Goliad State Park in Goliad, Texas.  We will have two areas set up at the event:  1. A period camp, complete with authentic tents, cooking, camp life etc.  2. An SAR area , where SAR (and hopefully even DAR chapters) can promote the SAR organization and talk to the public about what we do etc.  In the SAR area, you do not need to be in period clothing, but if you are staying in the period camp…..dress, tentage, etc all has to be of the Rev War period.  The park will provide us with firewood, water, restrooms, etc.  If you want to stay in a hotel for the weekend, there are many nice hotels in Goliad including a Best Western.  This takes planning and coordination, so, if you are attending as an individual SAR member, chapter, or Color Guard, please contact me by phone or email.  This event is open to ALL SAR members to participate, but you must coordinate with me so I know where to place you, etc.  This is a rare opportunity to be “on the grounds” at one of our Revolutionary War sites in Texas, as cattle from the various ranches were rounded up here, gathered at the Alamo in San Antonio, and then driven to Louisiana bound for Washington’s Troops.  Unfortunately, you can’t just “show up” on the day.  I do need to know of your plans.
