Steps to get started:

• Contact the Chapter Registrar early in the process, introduce yourself for instructions and questions, and let him assist with your application preparation. His phone and eMail are both acceptable.
• See our chapter Home page for our Open Meeting Schedule. Come to our open meetings to meet the registrar and other compatriots.
• There are four methods to start your SAR application. Internet savvy or not, one of these methods will work for you. See the SAR Apply in 4 Easy Steps webpage for instructions and choose which of four methods to Start Your Application (restated below).
   
  1. If you choose the NSSAR ONLINE APPLICATION method, then
     • See the SAR Online Application Guide to assist with using this method.
     • Register/Sign In to Create your User Account. An email and strong password are required to complete your profile. Please do not save/remember this password on public access PCs!
     • Review the Texas Society Chapter Locations to identify the one most appropriate for you.
     • Once logged in, use the My Applications Link from the left menu and Start a New Application. Be sure to select the Texas Society and your local chapter.
  2. If you choose the ADOBE PDF APPLICATION method, then
     • Download the PDF SAR Application form, save to your PC in any document folder and update it with your information.
     • If needed, download the free Adobe Reader to edit your application. Take care with the optional offers as they are not required to complete your application.
  3. If you choose the MICROSOFT WORD APPLICATION method, then
     • Download the Word SAR Application document, save to your PC in any document folder and update it with your information.
  4. If you choose the INEXPENSIVE SOFTWARE PACKAGE BY COX SOFTWARE method, then
     • Download the Cox Software SARApAid, install it and use it to update with your information.
• Internet savvy or not and whatever method you choose, interact with our Chapter Registrar. If you have difficulties he can probably assist! Continue working on your application until both you and he are satisfied. He can get you down the right path towards membership!
• Refer to the National SAR Genealogy Policies & Materials as needed.  Please don't get overwhelmed with the process as the Chapter Registrar is there to assist and reference the Application Preparation Guide as needed.
• If you're being referred by a DAR member, then don't forget the DAR Finder Form to give them their due credit.
