Sons of the American Revolution

What's SAR?

SAR Mission: "The Sons of the American Revolution honors our Revolutionary War patriot ancestors by promoting patriotism, serving our communities, educating and inspiring future generations about the founding principals of our Country."

Who We Are: The Sons of the American Revolution, SAR, is a "service" organization with membership "lineage" requirements. This means each member has traced their family tree back to an ancestor who supported the cause of the American Independence during the years 1775 to 1783. See our Apply in 4 Easy Steps webpage.

The SAR is a historical, educational, and patriotic non-profit, United States 501(c)3, corporation that seeks to maintain and extend:

  • the institutions of American freedom,
  • an appreciation for true patriotism,
  • a respect for our national symbols,
  • the value of American citizenship,
  • the unifying force of e pluribus unum that has created, from the people of many nations, one nation and one people.

We do this by perpetuating the stories of patriotism, courage, sacrifice, tragedy, and triumph of the men who achieved the independence of the American people in the belief that these stories are universal ones of man's eternal struggle against tyranny, relevant to all time, and will inspire and strengthen each succeeding generation as it too is called upon to defend our freedoms on the battlefield and in our public institutions.

"We, the descendants of the heroes of the American Revolution who, by their sacrifices, established the United States of America, reaffirm our faith in the principles of liberty and our Constitutional Republic, and solemnly pledge ourselves to defend them against every foe."

Compatriot Closing Admonition

"Until we meet again, let us remember our obligations to our forefathers whom gave us our Constitution, the Bill of Rights, an independent Supreme Court, and a nation of free men."
