Greetings, Compatriots!
I’m looking forward to the Texas Society's State
Meeting, April 16th-19th in Austin. I will be attending
along with Edmund Terrill Chapter Compatriots Gary Barker
and Ted Wilson and several who are dual members with our
Chapter. We have an elementary school poster contestant
entered in the State competition, and Ted Wilson perennially
wins with his yearbook entry for our chapter size group
(26-39 members). Please let him know how much you appreciate
all his hard work on that project each year! I will report on
the convention at our May meeting.
SPECIAL NOTE:
Our Chapter is in need of more funds to continue awarding
scholarships and medals. In the past, the generosity of a
small number of our Compatriots kept us going on those
activities. It is always desirable to not have to tap into our
CD investment or savings, and while personal donations are
ALWAYS very much appreciated (and tax-deductible), our Chapter
needs to work towards being self-sufficient (carrying on our
mission with only annual dues from our members) as we grow. One
opportunity that we have that is somewhat short notice, but
could bring in some extra funds, is a garage sale. Our DAR
Sisters of the Martha Jefferson Randolph Chapter here in
Sherman/Denison usually have a couple of garage sales per year
and most often have a good outcome. Since their upcoming sale
will be at Maureen’s and my house in Bells on May 1st and 2nd,
the ladies are gracious to allow us to place an SAR table at
the same sale. I will be manning it, of course. PLEASE
determine if you have any items (of significant value) that
you would be willing to donate for this event. If so, please
let me know and/or bring the item(s) to my house before May
1st. Meanwhile, I am happy to report that we have FIVE new
member applications in cue at this time! I am working hard
to get these prepared and into the hands of our State Registrar.
Our upcoming meeting is on Saturday, May 16th, 2026 at
9:30am at Grandy's in Sherman. At that meeting, our Treasurer,
John Young, will be educating us on many aspects of
Alzheimer’s/Dementia, an increasingly important subject, and
one that Treasurer Young has much personal experience with.
ALSO, we hope to be inducting into our Chapter at that meeting
three young men, Adam Castelli, Layne Hensley and Braden
Vaughan. Please shake their hands and make them feel welcome.
They are our future!!!
We will again have a gift card as a door prize for one
lucky attendee and a separate surprise raffle ($1 dollar per
ticket) for members only! Please be there!
Patriotically yours,
Dr. Gary N. Sisson, President
