Edmund Terrill Chapter Compatriots:
Happy Fall! I hope we get some cooler weather that FEELS like
fall pretty soon!
We had a great meeting in September, with a 103-year-old gentleman,
Dr. Walter Hunter! He shared some memories of his amazing life, and we
presented him with the SAR Good Citizenship Medal and Certificate.
As we did last year, the Edmund Terrill Chapter will sponsor a
"float" (a trailer with chairs on it filled with SARs and DARs) in the
upcoming Sherman Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, November 8th. If you
want to join in the free ride, just show up. It starts about 10:00
somewhere close to Sherman City Hall (not the courthouse). If the trailer
is full, you can ride in the truck. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate.
It was fun last year! Patrick Henry will probably join us. If you have
colonial attire, feel free to wear it, but it is NOT required.
Our next meeting is on Saturday, November 15th, 2025 at 9:30am at
Grandy's in Sherman, and speaking of medals, I will be awarding a significant
number of them at that meeting. I hope you can ALL attend, but I will be
contacting those who are receiving awards and recognition. We will be
introducing a BRAND NEW Chapter Level award honoring our late, great
Compatriot Terry L. (T.L.) Holden. Many of you did not know him, but he was
a spectacular human being and a powerhouse member on a Chapter, State and
National level. He is greatly missed. We are sure that you will love this
new award, as it is very unusual and will be only awarded to an Edmund
Terrill Compatriot each year. There has been some hard work taking place
behind the scenes to get and keep the Edmund Terrill Chapter on the right
path to growth. Our chapter IS GROWING, so we will be gradually getting
more active in Youth Awards and Contests, as well as presenting Public
Service awards to Police, Fire Fighters, etc. in the next two years. We
need to hear from each of you if you have ideas along those lines. Our
community outreach is one of our main objects for our existence! We will
also continue to nurture our relationship with our local DAR Chapters with
some joint endeavors with them.
Lastly, we will be voting for our proposed slate of officers for the
coming two-year term at the November meeting, as well as receiving any
nominations from the floor. The officers so elected will then be sworn in
at the January 17th, 2026 meeting. Please come to the next meeting and place
your vote (and find out what part YOU can play)!
Don’t forget, we will have a door prize for one lucky person in
attendance! See you then!
Patriotically yours,
Dr. Gary N. Sisson, Acting President
Edmund Terrill Chapter, Number 34,
