Greetings, Compatriots, Daughters and friends! I hope your summer is going well so far.

SPECIAL NOTES: Our Chapter Vice-President, Andy Jones, passed away on June 1st. He had been a member of the SAR since 2023, first in South Carolina, then transferring to our Chapter. Please pray for his wife, Michele, and their family. Our Chaplain, Lynn Johnson, has reached out to them on behalf of the Edmund Terrill Chapter. Here is the link to his obituary

Also, I am sad to report the passing of my sweet sister, Patricia (Sisson) St. John on June 8th. She lived in Ravenna, north of Bonham. Her husband passed away in 2021. Patricia was a member of the Martha Jefferson Randolph Chapter of the DAR here in Sherman.

On a brighter note, we have two new member applications (Richard Bayless and Ash Harmon) currently in progress at the SAR HQ in Louisville, KY, another (Jacob Vaughan) being processed by our State Registrar, and several others in various stages of early research and processing with our Chapter Registrar, yours truly. I am working hard to get the latter ones prepared and into the hands of our State Registrar. We also have a supplemental ancestor application for Colt Tallent currently being processed at the State level.

I am attaching a flyer for the annual Independence Day celebration at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Sherman, as we have all been invited to participate.

There are two projects that our Chapter has in the works, hopefully both for this fall. The first is the planting of a "Liberty Tree" (a Princeton Elm) with a granite marker celebrating America’s 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. We are currently negotiating for a location for the tree and marker, and are hoping to partner with the Martha Jefferson Randolph Chapter of the DAR in this project. The second project is the marking (with an official SAR member grave marker) of the grave of Compatriot Col. Joe Meredith Hill in Ladonia, Texas (1888-1980). His son, Col. Joe McFarland Hill, sponsored me into the Dallas Chapter of the SAR in 1994. He passed away in 1999. Both father and son served as Texas SAR State Presidents. I am currently trying to locate some of Joe Meredith Hill’s descendants who may be willing to attend the ceremony along with some of our Color Guard members and local dignitaries. Here is the link to his FindAGrave.com listing

We have various leads on awardees for the five Public Service Medals that the SAR has available each year (Law Enforcement, Fire Safety, EMS, Life Saving and Heroism), but if you are personally acquainted with any potential awardees, please let me or any of the Chapter Officers know.

Our upcoming meeting is on Saturday, July 18th, 2026 at 9:30am at Grandy's in Sherman. At that meeting, our Treasurer, John Young, will be presiding as well as presenting a program entitled "Diary of a Young Confederate Soldier in General Sterling Price's Army". You will not want to miss it!

We will again have a gift card as a door prize for one lucky attendee and a separate surprise raffle ($2 dollar per ticket) for members only! Please attend! We need each and every one of you!

Patriotically yours,

Dr. Gary N. Sisson, President
