Minutes of the Special Meeting of the Dallas Chapter

TEXAS SOCIETY SONS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION

December 17, 2005

The December 17, 2005 special meeting was called to order at 8:00 a.m. in the Mesquite Room at the Embassy Suites, (13131 North Central Expressway, Dallas, Texas) by Chapter President Tom Whitelock. Most members were waiting to the end of the meeting before processing through the breakfast line. PCP Art Ingalls gave the Invocation for the day.

Pledges of Allegiance to the United States Flag, the Texas Flag and salute to the SAR Flag were respectively led by Compatriots Charles Baker, Martin Lyford, Tom Whitelock. Former Marine Captain and PCP Mark Hanson led the members in singing “America”. PCP and Jokemeister Art Ingalls then enlivened everyone with the joke for the day.

There were sixteen members and eleven guests in attendance. The President then recognized the attending guests and members who were each asked to give their military background, if any. The officer and committee reports other than for the DAR Liaison and Veterans Affairs were dispensed with for the day.

Chapter Veterans Affairs Co-chairman Lt. Col. Grady Fairbairn then made an appeal for members to fill out activity reports for the chapter’s annual activity report. He also made a request for members to contact him for information about getting an SAR table together for the Dallas Military Charity Ball on March 4, 2006 at the Adams Mark Hotel. The hotel is downtown and tickets are $90 each. The honored guest at the ball will be U.S. Army Vice Chief of Staff General Cody.

President Whitelock then gave a detailed explanation of the symbolism of the SAR insignia. Then President Whitelock, accompanied by the new member’s sponsor, Martin Lyford, invested Marine Lance Corporal Karl Klammer into the Chapter. A special photograph of Lance Corporal Klammer with all of the attending former and current Marines was taken to mark the occasion. This included Captain Mark Hansen, Major and Judge Mike Yarbrough, Lance Corporal Karl Klammer, Col. Art Ingalls, Sergeant Damien McGee, Corporal Kenny Meazell, and Master Gunnery Sergeant Paul Mattoon. Mike Yarbrough is the former president of the McKinney SAR Chapter and is the Justice of the Peace in Frisco, Collin County. He is standing for reelection and could use our financial support for the race.

DAR Liaison and PCP Jack Carney reported about the good comments he had received from the DAR Regent attendees for the presentation by Catherine Turocy on Colonial dancing. The Benediction was given by Chaplain Frank Pounders, which was followed by the SAR Closing led by President Whitelock, who adjourned the meeting at 8:45 a.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Bob Clark
