Dallas Chapter Meeting
November 13, 2004
President Tracy Pounders called the meeting to order at 8:01 a.m. with comments about the Presidential Election process (published in the December Newsletter). He also thanked God for Tom Whitelock's speedy recovery from his heart attack.

Honors to the USA, Texas, and SAR flags were led by Mel McCoy, Peter Orlebeke, and Jim Templin, respectively. Tracy led in the singing of "America."
Acting Sergeant-at-Arms Glen Toal directed the stampede to breakfast while the meeting was put on "hold."
Tracy reconvened the meeting at 8:20.
FCP Jack Carney introduced our guests, many of whom were DAR Regents. Treasurer Elvin Brown announced that 36 members were present, with 19 visitors.
Art Ingalls educated the group with a humorous interlude.
Mel McCoy announced that we now have 293 members, and 12 pending.
Nominating Committee Chairman Jack Carney reported on the slate of Chapter officers proposed by the Committee: Tom Whitelock for President; Tom Smith for First Vice President (Programs); Charles Baker for Second Vice President (Awards); Robert Clark for Secretary; Allen Christian for Treasurer; Alan Pickens for Historian; and Frank Pounders for Chaplain. President Tracy Pounders called for more nominations from the floor. There being none, the motion was made and passed unanimously that the above slate will stand for election at the December meeting.
Compatriot Mike Ratcliff announced an effort to form a local chapter of the Sons of the War of 1812, in January, 2005. Tentative name of the chapter is the Craig Austin Rowley Chapter. Anyone having interest should contact Mike.
Henrietta Slagle announced the availability of Auxiliary Membership in the SAR. Dues are $5.00 per year. Wives of members of the Dallas Chapter should contact Henrietta for more information.
Compatriot Alan Pickens presented a Flag Certificate to Boy Scout and Senior Patrol Leader Jay Anderson of Troop 1010, while Scouter Jim Stewart looked on. Jay had repaired several flagpoles at various Boy Scout camps.
FCP Ralph McDowell presented a large membership certificate to Hank Goldwire in recognition of his many years of service to the Dallas Chapter.
Ralph also swore in Grady Fairbairn as the chapter's newest compatriot.
Second V.P. Tom Smith announced progress in presenting certificates and medals in numerous venues in the Dallas Area. He also presented belated Certificates of Appreciation to Bob Spence and Graham Martin for their participation in the August 31 welcoming of the troops at DFW Airport. Members are urged to participate in the welcoming of troops from Iraq who come in at Terminal B, Gate 35, daily to begin two weeks of R & R. Call 972-574-0392 after 5 p.m. on any given day to learn the scheduled arrival of the next planeload.
FCP Cliff Slagle reported on the Board of Managers Meeting in Galveston.
Compatriot Jim Templin announced that the Dallas Morning News is planning to discontinue the weekly "Family Tree" column by Compatriot Lloyd Bockstruck. The Minutes of the October 9 meeting , as posted on the sardallas.org website, were approved.
Treasurer Elvin Brown reported $1,736.23 in checking, $8,247.66 in the Minuteman Fund, and $26,766.26 in the Richie Fund. Report accepted.
First Vice President Tom Whitelock introduced Chapter Secretary Charles Baker who gave an informative illustrated talk on U.S. Vexillology (How we got our flag.)
Whitelock presented Charles a Certificate of Appreciation and a Minuiteman Clock.
Elvin Brown held the door prize drawing and distributed prizes.
Following the Benediction Prayer by Chaplain Pounders and SAR Closing, the meeting was adjorned at exactly 10 a.m.
