MINUTES OF THE DALLAS CHAPTER, TXSSAR, MEETING OF DECEMBER 2002
The regularly scheduled meeting of the Dallas Chapter of the Texas Society, Sons of the American Revolution was held on Saturday, December 14, 2002, at Luby's Cafeteria, Dallas, Texas, Chapter President Cliff Slagle presiding.
The meeting was called to order at 8:00 A.M. Chapter Chaplain Frank Pounders gave the invocation. The pledges of allegiance to flags of the United States of America, the State of Texas, and the Sons of the American Revolution were recited. Compatriot Gary Sisson led the Chapter in the singing of "America." The meeting was dismissed to breakfast at 8:07 A.M. and Compatriot Elvin Brown directed the compatriots and guests to breakfast.
At 8:35 A.M. the meeting resumed. Gary Sisson introduced the greeters for the meeting, John Morton and Robert Choker. Guests attending the meeting were introduced.
Compatriot Ingalls then provided a humorous story for the meeting.
On motion, duly made and seconded, passed on voice vote, reading of the minutes of the November meeting was dispensed with.
Compatriot Smith gave the treasurer's report. The Dallas Chapter has $1,813.26 in its checking account and $35,026.26 in the Chapter's SmithBarney account.
Compatriot Ralph McDowell gave the Americanism report on Valley Forge. Compatriot McDowell also announced that the Thirteen Colony Quarter Sets had generated $597.00 to date for the chapter, after expenses. Finally, Compatriot McDowell was presented with a "purple thumb" award for inserting the twenty-five cent pieces into the albums by Historian Tom Whitelock. Historian Whitelock then gave his report.
Chapter Registrar Mel McCoy announced that our chapter membership stood at 313.
On motion, duly made and seconded, passed on voice vote, the Dallas Chapter voted to support the selection of Compatriot Robert Choker as Alternate National Trustee.
On motion, duly made by Ralph McDowell and duly seconded, passed on voice vote, the Dallas Chapter voted to separate the funds in the SmithBarney account into two accounts, one for the Ritchie funds and one for the Patriot funds.
The speaker, David Bucy, discussed Winston Churchill's views on the American Revolution.
Following Mr. Cain's presentation, the door prizes were drawn by Chapter Treasurer Tom Smith.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:43 A.M., following the SAR closing and the benediction being given by Chaplain Pounders.
