Minutes of Regular Meeting of the Dallas Chapter, TXSSAR, of April 13, 2002.

 

            The regular monthly meeting of the Dallas Chapter, TXSSAR was held at Luby’s Cafeteria, 6221 E. Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, Texas on Saturday, April 13, 2002.

 

            Presiding was Chapter President Cliff Slagle and the Chapter Secretary, Hank Voegtle, recorded the minutes of the meeting.

 

            The reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting was dispensed with.

 

            A quorum of members was present.

 

            The following proceedings were had:

 

            At 8:00 A.M. the meeting was called to order by President Slagle.  The invocation and sick call were given by Chaplain Frank Pounders.  The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Compatriot Charles Bowling, the Pledge to the Texas flag was led by Compatriot Art Ingalls, and the Pledge to the S.A.R. Flag and the signing of America was led by former Chapter President Gary Sissons.  Upon the conclusion of those events the assembled members and guests were called to breakfast by President Slagle.

 

            The meeting resumed at 8:35 A.M.  Former Chapter President Gary Sissons introduced the greeters for the meeting.

 

            Next, Ms. Cynthia A. Moore, a history teacher at Parkhill Junior High in the Richardson Independent School District was introduced.  Ms. Moore was selected as the outstanding history teacher by the Dallas Chapter and also by the Texas Society.  She will be attending a program on the teaching of American History sponsored by the Freedoms Foundation of Valley Forge this coming summer.  Ms. Moore read a portion of her winning application.

 

            Guests attending the meeting were then introduced, followed by Compatriot Art Ingalls reciting his joke for the month. The Historian’s Report was given by Compatriot Tom Whitlock.  Second Vice President Tracy Pounders requested assistance in presenting JROTC medals at high schools in the Dallas area.

 

            First Vice President Jack Carney introduced the speaker for the meeting.  Mike Holbrook, an announcer with radio station WRR, presented a program on how his interest in reenacting aids in making history come alive.  At the conclusion of his presentation, Mr. Holbrook was presented with a miniature Liberty Bell.

 

            Following Mr. Holbrook’s presentation, Former State President Dick Arnold presented a Flag Certificate to David Studebaker.  Compatriot Charles Baker made an announcement on upcoming color guard events and uniforming. Compatriot John Waterfield led the meeting in the S.A.R. closing, followed by Chaplain Pounders giving the benediction.

 

            The meeting was adjourned at 9:33 A.M.
