Minutes of the regularly slated annual meeting of the Dallas Chapter, Texas Society, Sons of the American Revolution held on Saturday, February 9^th, 2002 at Luby’s Cafeteria, 6221 E. Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, Texas.

Around or about 8:00 a.m., President Gary Sisson called the meeting to order. The sick call was read and the invocation delivered by Chaplain Frank Pounders. Compatriot John Morton led the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. Flag. Compatriot Barkley Miller led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Texas Flag, and Compatriot Robert Tanner Coursey led the Salute to the SAR Flag. President Sisson led the a capella singing of the first verse of “America”. Sergeant-at-Arms Tom Whitelock then led the members and guests to the breakfast serving line.

The greeters were TXSSAR District 6 Vice-President Ralph McDowell, Former Chapter President Mark Hansen and Compatriot Elvin Brown. In the interest of time, guests were not introduced. The guest list is available from the Treasurer’s sign-in sheet. Motion was made, seconded and carried to accept the minutes of the last meeting as posted on the Dallas Chapter website, with Compatriot Bill Richardson casting the lone dissenting vote.

The winner and 1^st runner-up of the Dallas Chapter Oration Contest and the winner of the Dallas Chapter Essay Contest gave the Americanism presentation. Their names are Camden Gilman, Mysti Raz and Ashley Howie, respectively.

1^st Vice-President Cliff Slagle introduced the speaker, DAR member Barbara Baylis, whose topic was Women of the DAR. Afterward, 1^st VP Slagle presented Ms. Baylis with a miniature Liberty Bell replica and Certificate of Appreciation, as well as a Flag Certificate for properly displaying the U.S. Flag at her home.

2^nd Vice-President Jack Carney presented the SAR Law Enforcement Commendation Medal and Certificate to Sergeant Clark Allen of the Dallas Police Department, with his superior officer, Deputy Chief Floyd Simpson, looking on. Compatriot Coursey, on behalf of the David Pendleton Society of the CAR, invited those present to the annual George Washington Tea at the Jane Douglas DAR House in Fair Park the next day. Newsletter Editor Charles Baker announced the need for judges for the annual elementary school Poster Contest on Saturday, March 2^nd, 2002 and passed around a sign-up list for those wishing to judge. Along with President Sisson and Sergeant-at-arms Whitelock, Compatriot Baker displayed the new parade banner. President Sisson announced that the TXSSAR annual convention is to be March 8^th-10^th in Tyler, Texas. District 6 VP McDowell explained the Original 13 Colonies Coin Album fundraiser and invited those present to visit the display after the meeting.

FCP Hansen presented the slate of nominees for 2002-2003 Dallas Chapter officers: President-Cliff Slagle, 1^st Vice President-Jack Carney, 2^nd Vice President-Tracy Pounders, Secretary-Hank Voegtle, Treasurer-Tom Smith, Registrar-Melvin McCoy, Historian-Tom Whitelock and Chaplain-Frank Pounders. After opening the floor for further nominations and receiving none, motion was made and seconded to accept the nominees by acclamation. The vote was unanimous in favor. President Sisson then presented FCP Hansen with a five-pound English note, requesting he have a pint on us during his upcoming vacation to London.

President Sisson inducted new members Rusty Ballard and Bill McKnight and presented Supplemental Ancestor Certificates for Compatriots Hugh and Chuck McKnight.

Treasurer Tracy Pounders delivered the Treasurer’s report (cash in checking account-$663.62, cash on hand-$100.00 and investment funds-$32,907.50) and conducted a door prize drawing. President Sisson delivered the SAR closing, and Chaplain Pounders gave the benediction. The meeting was adjourned at approximately 9:45 a.m.
