Minutes of the regularly slated meeting of the Dallas Chapter, Texas Society, Sons of the American Revolution held on Saturday, November 10th, 2001 at Luby’s Cafeteria, 6221 E. Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, Texas.

Around or about 8:00 a.m. President Gary Sisson called the meeting to order.  The sick call was read and the invocation delivered by Chaplain Frank Pounders.  Former Chapter President Harry C. Post III led the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. Flag.  Compatriot Paul Cooper, Jr. led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Texas Flag, and Compatriot Neil Smoak led the Salute to the SAR Flag.  President Sisson led the a capella singing of the first verse of “America”.  Sergeant-at-Arms Tom Whitelock then led the members and guests to the breakfast serving line. 

The greeters were TXSSAR District 6 V.P. Ralph McDowell, Former Chapter President Mark Hansen and Compatriot Elvin Brown.  Guests were introduced table-by-table by their hosts. The guest list is available from the Treasurer’s sign-in sheet.  Resident humorist Art Ingalls delivered the jokes of the month.

President Sisson presented Sarah Coursey, a member of the Jane Douglas Chapter, NSDAR, with the SAR Medal of Appreciation for her efforts in procuring memberships for the Dallas Chapter, TXSSAR.  President Sisson also presented Flag Certificates to 1st Vice-President Cliff Slagle and Minuteman Newsletter Editor Charles Baker in appreciation for the proper display of the U.S. Flag at their respective homes.

President Sisson inducted new Compatriot Robert L. Mencke (sponsored by Former Chapter President John Warterfield) and presented a certificate to Compatriot John Lee Newton recognizing his transfer from the Florida Society, SAR to the Dallas Chapter.  Perpetual Membership Certificates were presented to President Sisson, Historian Hank Voegtle, Sergeant-at-Arms Whitelock and Compatriot Rick Fawkes. 

Historian Voegtle read a Flag Folding Ceremony while a U.S. Flag was folded as our monthly Americanism presentation.

President Sisson informed those present that the March, 2002 annual Chapter awards and installation meeting would be either a brunch or an evening meeting on Saturday March 16th, the third Saturday.  Compatriot Bill Barris reported on the Chapter’s veterans activities.  Compatriot Henry Rather reported on the State Fair prospective member contacts, and contact cards were distributed to members for telephone follow-up.  President Sisson encouraged those present to volunteer as judges for the various upcoming Chapter sponsored contests.

1st V.P. Slagle introduced Compatriot Rick Fawkes who spoke to those present concerning the American Long Rifle Association of which he is a very active member.  1st V.P. Slagle then presented Compatriot Fawkes with a miniature Liberty Bell Replica and a Certificate of Appreciation for his program.  

Treasurer Tracy Pounders delivered the Treasurer’s report (cash in the checking account-$1840.51, cash on hand-$100.00 and investment funds-$32,147.16) and conducted the door prize drawing.  President Sisson delivered the SAR closing.  Chaplain Pounders gave the benediction, and the meeting was adjourned at about 9:30 a.m.
