Minutes of the regularly slated meeting of the Dallas Chapter, Texas Society, Sons of the American Revolution held on Saturday, September 8th, 2001 at Lubys Cafeteria, 6221 E. Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, Texas.
Around or about 8:00 a.m. President Gary Sisson called the meeting to order. The sick call was read and the invocation delivered by Chaplain Frank Pounders. The Pledge of Allegiance to the United States flag was led by Compatriot Martin Lyford, the Pledge to the Texas flag was led by Compatriot Herb Jones, and the Salute to the SAR flag was led by Compatriot Charles McKnight. President Sisson led the a capella singing of the first verse of America. Sergeant-at-Arms Tom Whitelock led the members and guests to the breakfast serving line.
After breakfast the greeters, Former Dallas Chapter President and TXSSAR District 6 V.P. Ralph McDowell, Compatriot Tom Smith and NSSAR Former South Central District V.P. and TXSSAR Former President Robert Coker, were recognized, and guests were introduced table-by-table by their hosts. The guest list is available from the Treasurers sign-in sheet. Motion was made and seconded that the minutes of the last meeting not be read, as they are posted on the Dallas Chapter web site. The majority of members present voted in favor of the motion. Treasurer Tracy Pounders delivered the Treasurers report: cash on hand-$102.75 and checking account-$3,257.28. Members were reminded of the Constitution Week Brunch to be held at Brookhaven Country Club on September 15th and the TXSSAR Board of Managers meeting to be held in Wichita Falls, Texas on November 3rd and 4th. A sign-up list was passed around for those wishing to man the Dallas SAR table at the DAR House in Fair Park during the State Fair.
Registrar Don Hay presented supplemental ancestor certificates to Compatriots Robert Tanner Coursey, Charles McKnight and Hugh McKnight. The Americanism presentation was a U.S. Flag decommissioning ceremony conducted by Girl Scout Troop #539, led by Ms. Kathy Ogle. President Sisson presented each Scout with a commemorative $2 bill with John Trumbulls painting of the signing of the Declaration of Independence on the obverse.
President Sisson announced that the membership roster is now posted on the Chapter web site, and encouraged those members who speak publicly to send him information on their program(s) and a photograph to post on the new Speakers Bureau page of the web site. TXSSAR Dist. 6 V.P. McDowell reported on the monies received from the Tom Thumb and Kroger donation programs, and TXSSAR East Fork Trinity Chapter President Bill Bellomy invited those present to their Chapter meeting on Thursday, September 13th to hear Patrick Henrys famous Liberty or Death speech performed by Dallas Chapter President Sisson.
President Sisson introduced members of the David Pendleton Chapter of the NSCAR, who presented a history and other items of interest concerning their Chapter. Compatriot Robert Tanner Coursey accepted a Certificate of Appreciation and a Liberty Bell Replica on behalf of the CAR Chapter, and each member of the Chapter received a commemorative $2 bill as above.
Treasurer Pounders conducted a door prize drawing, and President Sisson delivered the SAR closing. Chaplain Pounders gave the benediction, and the meeting was adjourned at approximately 9:45 a.m.
