Minutes of the regularly slated meeting of the Dallas Chapter, Texas Society, Sons of the American Revolution, held on Saturday, April 14, 2001 at Luby’s Cafeteria, 6221 E. Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, Texas.

Around or about 8:00 A.M. the President, Dr. Gary Sisson, called the meeting to order. The sick call was read and the invocation delivered by the Chaplain, Frank Pounders; the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States was led by Harry Post; the Pledge of Allegiance to the Texas Flag was led by Mike Mamminga; and the Salute to the SAR Flag was led by David Hill. President Sisson led an a capella singing of the first verse of "America", and Sergeant-at-Arms Tom Whitelock led the members and guests to the breakfast serving line.

After breakfast the greeters, David Hill, Frank Harless and Ralph McDowell, were recognized and guests were introduced table-by-table by their hosts. The guest list is available from the treasurer’s sign-in sheet. Resident humorist Art Ingalls delivered the joke of the day. The Secretary’s reading of the minutes of the previous meeting was waived by popular demand over the objections of a very small but vociferous minority. A Treasurer’s report was unavailable.

2^nd Vice-President Jack Carney requested members to serve as presenters for Junior ROTC awards at area high schools. A signup list with dates and locations was passed around. The DAR liaison officer, John Waterfield, reported that 30-40 members of the DAR would be in attendance at the May meeting.

Compatriot Richard Ahlstrom received a 25-year membership medal and Compatriot Dr. Bill Barris was presented with the Bronze service medal. New member Melvin McCoy was inducted.

The Americanism presentation on George Washington was by Bill Richardson.

Society and Chapter business was a brief presentation on the inconsistencies and proposed amendments to the Chapter’s Constitution and By-laws. Requests were made for compatriots to volunteer at the Jane Douglas DAR house at Fair Park on June 23^rd and for re-enactors for the duration of the Texas State Fair in October. The Dallas Chapter has a new web site.

1^st Vice-President Clifford Slagle introduced the program which was Compatriot and Mrs. Bill Bellomy doing a representation based on actual manuscripts of an interview with a member of General Washington’s personal guards by a newspaper reporter. They were given a liberty bell replica and certificate as a thank you for their efforts.

A door prize drawing was conducted by Treasurer Tracy Pounders and the SAR closing was delivered by President Sisson. The benediction and dismissal were given by Chaplain Frank Pounders at 10:23 A.M.
